She married Eugene Davis "Gene" Maxwell on Dec. 28, 1881. They lived in Hall County, GA and were very active in the Methodist Church. He was a farmer. Later in life, census records show that she was the matron of a boarding school.
They had the following children:
Egbert Brantley Maxwell (1883 – 1962)
Curtis Andrew Maxwell (1885 – 1944)
Lee Davis Maxwell (1887 – 1976)
Pearl Elizabeth Maxwell Smith (1890 – 1953)
Alva Gustin Maxwell (1891 – 1992)
Ella Doris Maxwell West (1893 – 1934)
Fredric (Fred) Hampton Maxwell (1896 – 1996)
Clifford Gary Maxwell (1898 – 1957)
Clarence Eugene Maxwell (1900 – 1982)
Ottaway S Maxwell (1903 – 1994)
Dumas C Maxwell (1905 – 1999)
Marvin F. Maxwell (1909 – 1988)
One of their many fine children, Alva Maxwell, was well-known as vice-president of Citizens and Southern National Bank of Atlanta. There is a building at Young Harris College named after Alva and Edna Maxwell.
Note: All spellings (Callie Fornie Smith, her mother's first name as Samantha and maiden name as Porter, not Prater) are confirmed by originals of the printed newspaper obituaries and handwritten twice in the Maxwell Family Bible (both are in my possession). There is a public record that spells Samantha Elizabeth Porter differently but I believe that it must be a clerical error.
