Three of the living children, including Henry, were born in New York, but by 1866 the family was living in San Francisco, California, where at least 6 more children were born.
Henry had a varied career. In 1880 he was a worker in a wool mill. In 1900 he was a deputy sheriff. In the 1910 and 1920 census, he is working for the Internal Revenus Service.
Twice married, his first wife was Catherine "Katie" E. Winter, who, like him, had been born to Irish immigrants in New York. Her father was Owen Winter. Henry and Katie were married in 1889 in California and had at least 9 children, all of them born in San Francisco, whose names were:
Henry Joseph Jr.
Margarete "Maggie" C.
Catherine Claire
Loretta Susan
Alice F.
Marie May
Bernice B.
Earl Thomas
Another child was born in April of 1910, but I do not have a name for that one.
Catherine [Winter] McMahon died on September 22, 1924. She and Henry had been married for 35 years. Some time after that, he married Connie I. Ross, with whom he had no children.
