He was born October 4, 1943, to Russell and Hazel (Marchion) Adam, in Strong City, KS.
George married Barbara Johnson on October 5, 1963, in Dade County, GA.
He was a self-employed steel worker. He also worked in the heating and air conditioning business and water systems.
George joined the United States Navy Seabees on May 9, 1966 and was honorably discharged on July 1, 1969. While serving, he served two tours in Viet Nam. George was wounded in combat, and received a purple heart. He was also a member of the America Legion Post # 147 and a D.A.V. lifetime member.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara, of the home; two sons, George R. Adam, Jr., & wife Shannon, of Burdick, KS and John R. Adam & wife Marsha, of Salina, KS; three grandsons, Marty Adam & wife Meaghan, Tyler Adam & wife Becky Jo, all of Cleveland, TN and David Adam, of Burdick; two great-grandsons, Peyton and Colton; six sisters, JoAnn Adam, Jean Miklesbost, Isabelle Bengtson, Lola Jane Warner, Judy Lively, Francis Bland and brother, Russell L. Adam, Jr.
He was preceded in death by parents.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, April 12, 2011, at Penwell-Gabel Flint Hills Chapel in Council Grove, KS. The visitation will be at 10:00 A.M. prior to the service. Interment will follow at Delavan Cemetery.
