OBITUARY :
RUTH KARN BACHTELL, 85, of 319 N. Broad St., died Saturday, Dec. 9, 2000, at her home.

Born May 1, 1915, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Roy Clinton and Edith Rebecca Stockslager Karn.

She attended Hagerstown schools.

She was employed at W.F. Prior Company, Hagerstown, J.J. Newberry Company, Connie's Sportswear, and prior to retiring in the early 1970's, at Waynesboro Knitting Mill, all of Waynesboro.

She was a member of Evangelical Lutheran Church, Waynesboro, and the Young Women's Bible Class.

She was a member of National AARP.

She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Richard Jesse Bachtell; two daughters, Nancy J. Watson of Waynesboro and Janet E. Shank of Hagerstown; two sons, Ronald W. Bachtell of Burton, Mich., and Dennis E. Bachtell of Waynesboro; three sisters, Helen R. Mowen and Katherine M. Browning, both of Hagerstown, and Frances G. Easter of Martinsburg, W.Va.; a brother, Jack W. Karn of St. Albans, W.Va.; eight grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a step-great-grandson; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Marie M. Guillard and Jean E. Yates; a brother, Clinton R. Karn; and a granddaughter.

Services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Rest Haven Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown. The Rev. Richard A. Seaks will officiate. Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro, and one hour prior to the service in the chapel.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Evangelical Lutheran Church, 43 S. Church St., Waynesboro, PA 17268 or to Hospice of the Good Shepherd, 2700 Luther Drive, Chambersburg, PA 17201 or to American Diabetes Association, in care of Joan Goetz, 219 W. Second St., Waynesboro, PA 17268.
