Rose grew up in Petersburg, TX where her relatives were pioneer farmers. Her family moved to Bowie, TX and her father owned the feed store there. She graduated from Petersburg High School and attended Oklahoma University. She married Paul Gray in 1946 and they lived in Bowie, Petersburg, Pilot Point, and Collinsville, most of that time on farms. Her family are long-time members of Calvary Baptist Church in Pilot Point where Rose was a helper in the nursery.
Rose was a homemaker, almost always had a garden, and liked to cook. She enjoyed having her granddaughters come to visit and cooked special dishes such as "soup with nuthin' in it" for them.Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren always made her smile. Rose was loved by all for her humility, sweet disposition, and positive attitude. For the last 7 years, she suffered the effects of Alzheimer's disease, and lived at Hilltop Haven in Gunter for the final 33 months.
Visitation will be Friday, April 8, 2011, from 7 to 8 pm at the Slay Memorial Chapel in Aubrey. Services will be held at Calvary Baptist Church in Pilot Point on Saturday, April 9, 2011, at 10 am with the Rev. Philip Riegel officiating. Burial will follow at Bellevue Cemetery.
Survivors include her husband, Paul Gray of Collinsville; one son, Paul Weldon Gray of Lakewood Village; one daughter, Linda Ellen Gray of Austin; two grandchildren; two great grandchildren; one brother, Clint Gregory Jr, of Petersburg, TX; and one sister, Carolyn Cantwell of Arlington, TX.
The family wishes to thank the nursing and hospice staffs at Hilltop Haven and Christian Care Center for their loving care of our loved one. The charity of choice for donations is the Alzheimer's Association.
Services are under the direction of Slay Memorial Funeral Center.
