Family Tribute
Vernon M. Snodgrass
1920-2011
Vernon 'Jug' Snodgrass died March 31, 2011 at age 91 of congestive heart failure. He was surrounded by his dear friends and caregivers, The Balfours and Gary Barker.
He was born March 15, 1920 in Halsey, Oregon to parents Alexander Marcell Snodgrass and Ivarina Marie Snodgrass. He had a brother, Jack, who died previously. He graduated from Rickreal High School. He served in the Army as a Medic in World War II and earned a Purple Heart. His first wife, Marley Marie preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife, Geraldine of Roseburg; two daughters: Joanne McGriff of Woodburn and Donna White of Eugene; two step-sons: Mark Sheldon of Roseville, CA, Matt Sheldon of Roseburg; and one step-daughter, Sheila Sheldon of Eugene; four granddaughters: Kathy, Tammy, Cindy and Heather; 5 great-granddaughters, 2 great-grandsons, and one great-great grandson.
He worked at the Southern Pacific Railroad and retired after 40 years of service. He had a love of nature and lived life with abandon, sharing his love of fishing and hunting with family and dear friends.
A graveside service will be held at Rest Lawn Cemetery in Junction City, Oregon for family and close friends on Monday, April 11, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. A celebration of life will be scheduled at a later date where those who knew and loved him can "gather at the river" at his home in Scottsburg.
