His mother passed away when he was 4 years old and he was taken in by his great aunt and uncle Nathan & Flora B. Coward Rainwater, he called them uncle Nate & aunt Bee. He was returned to his father when Flora passed away.

My Grandparents met in 1942 and married September 18 1943

He was a very honest man, I never heard him say a bad word against anyone, he did get quiet some, and we would ask what's wrong and he would say, well if I can't say something good about em I won't say nothing at all, that was only towards the people he felt had wronged someone, via news or whatever. Never saw him angry, he was as close to perfect as he could be, always tried to live life the right way.

The dearest person you would ever want to meet. A man who really loved his family and always put them before himself. Endured some heartache's thru out his life, watched many of his family members leave this world but he always said that that's just the way it is, the way it's got to be, but with the ones that should pass after him always hurt him the most, his first born son born on his 2nd wedding anniversary passed away due to SIDS at 4 months and 4 days old, not long after that their home burned down and they lost the few picture's they had of him, they had no insurance, which made their lives more difficult, his grand-daughter got hit by a car and passed away, thru all the pain, he never blamed and he always tried to keep his head up and move on and never lost his faith.

His favorite color was red, he loved to watch westerns. His nickname was Slim. He used to love to fish when he was able. His best friend growing up was James Coble, they would walk uptown to the movie shows, that's what he called it. His favorite actor was Buck Jones, his 2 favorite movies were "Trail of the Lonesome Pine" and "Lonesome Dove". He had his series he liked watching "Gunsmoke", "Bonanza" and the "Lonesome Dove" series. He was also known to get caught up in a few soaps after he became disabled.

He was very special to me, he was my Grandpa, Mother, Father, best friend & my life, he was my dad's father and him and my grandmother helped raise me, I stayed with them alot because my mom worked so much and her parent's were already gone to our Lord, if ever I feared the loss of someone in my family it was him, I was always worried about it, everyone in the family felt that way, but with good reason. He was the one that kept the family together, after his passing nobody could stand to go over there as often it just hurt to bad with him not there. It just seemed like life stopped for awile, after he went to be with our Lord. I love all my family but he was just a huge part of my life and who I am today.
