HANS SOLEM DIES AT 80

Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. from the First Congregational church for Hans J. Solem, 80, who passed away Thursday in St. Luke's Hospital, Duluth. He was a resident of 22 12th Street.

He was born January 5, 1880 in Norway. He was a charter member of the Sons of Norway Lodge, a member of the local Eagles lodge, and a past Grand-Dad of the American Legion. He built the Solem Hotel in 1919 following the forest fire in the fall of 1918.

Surviving are his wife, Lucy, two daughters, Mrs. Helen Ulvestad and Mrs. Lillian Guckenberg, both of Cloquet; five grandchildren; two brothers, William, Cloquet and Andrew, Sorum, South Dakota; two half-brothers, Olaf, Portland, Oregon, and Joe, Sacramento, California and a half-sister and half-brother in Norway.

Friends may call at the Barr Brothers Funeral Home after 4 p.m. Friday and at the church from 12 noon until the funeral hour on Saturday. Rev. Charles Saarion will officiate at the service, and burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery.
