He was a retired Standard Oil employee, a member of the Baptist Temple on Twenty-first Street in Huntington, West Virginia and the Huntington Masonic Lodge. He was married to Nellie Jane Pitts and had two daughters, Imogene Clara Smith Corson and Clementine Smith Templeton.
