Former longtime Alaska resident Glenn E. Phillips, 84, died April 6, 2010, in Mesa, Ariz.

Born May 19, 1925, in Eldon, Iowa, Glenn came to Alaska from Iowa in March of 1946 with little more than a pioneer spirit and the desire to succeed. He worked an array of jobs during his early years in Alaska but found the thing he loved the most was sales. This led him to a very successful career in car sales and he eventually became part-owner of the Chrysler Dodge dealership in the mid-1960s. Glenn's interest in sales turned toward real estate in the '70s, when he pursued a career as a real estate broker, land developer and building contractor until he retired. Glenn was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Martha "Gene" Phillips.

He is survived by his children, Cindy, Glenda and Larry; grandchildren, Candace, Colleen and Matthew; and his sister, Marge Adams. Glenn served his country during World War II as an infantryman and medic. He was laid to rest April 21 with military honors in Mesa, Ariz. Memorial donations may be sent to the Alzheimer's Association, P.O. Box 96011, Washington, D.C. 20090-6011 or online to alz.org. Visit the online memorial at legacy.com
