"Joseph Todd KEENE was born in Callaway County, MO, January 13, 1849. His father,
Henry Keene, was a native of Scott County, Kentucky and a physician. He married
Miss Martha Lewis Snell, and to his marriage were born the following
children-Zarelda, Sarah Jane, Samuel Louden, John Thadeus, Henry Clay, Judith, Elizabeth Hopewell, George Washington, Hopewell, Richard, Nancy, Joseph Todd, Martha and James Robert.
Joseph T. Keene was brought to Texas at the age of six years by his parents, and in this State he was reared to farming. His father brought some slaves with him, but at the close of the war the estate was worthless, and all the sons had to work. Joseph Todd therefore, became
used to agriculture and the handling of stock, and, having an aptitude for business, soon acquired a fortune after beginning business for himself. He owned four large farms and was known as one of the largest stock-raisers in his county. On July 29, 1868, he married Cordelia Haynes, daughter of Henry C. Haynes, who had moved from his native state of Georgia to Alabama, and in 1866 came to Texas, where he died in 1876. To the marriage of Mr. Keene and Miss Haynes have been born six children -- Bruce Allen, James Wallace, Jody D., Charles, Henry Todd and Dora.
Mr. Keene is an Odd Fellow and a member of the Missionary Baptist church.
