One of seven siblings, David Franklin Sheldon was the son of Benjamin F. Sheldon (1791 - 1870) and Lovisa Rice (1796 - 1870). On February 21, 1852, he married Adaline Crandall in Cass County, Michigan, when both families were otherwise residing in LaGrange, Lorain County, Ohio.

David and Adaline had two children, Stella M. Sheldon (1854 - 1941) and Frank Milford Sheldon (1857 - 1935). Between their dates of birth, they had moved our family from Ohio to Clinton County, Michigan, where he operated mills with two partners.

One of their mills was featured in 'Elsie 1857-2007, One Hundred and Fifty Years in the Life of a Community,' shown in one of the oldest known, pre-Civil War, photographs of the town. According to a biographical sketch, he and his partners also invested in an additional mill in Gratiot County. During the later 1860's he sold his interests and by 1870 his family was settling in Eaton County where he built his own mill, and where he and Adaline lived the remainder of their lives.

Thank you to several very dear people who have helped us in our family quest to someday see the likeness of our gg-grandfather. My sister Dame Agatha (as she is known here) has given me the inspiration while continuing the journey of discovery.

In September 2008 Wendy B. from Indiana, a distant and important cousin with a dual Johnson and Crandall connection provided the photograph of the family of four, circa 1891. We met throught a message left at GenForum, found by Wendy's cousin who contacted me and guided me to her.

At my feet in the photograph next to the Sheldon monument are David F. Sheldon and his wife Adaline A. (Crandall) Sheldon. Adaline's marker is closest to my feet. In the same area lay 3 generations of Sheldon-related ancestors. (Surnames Sheldon, Johnson, Williams, Raymond, and Mains).

Roberta (Mains) Whitbeck (1916 - 2004), g-grandaughter of David, had our family Bible and it was inscribed in David's handwriting. It lists his siblings and birth dates. It also lists Adaline's parents Kidder and Polly (Stevens) Crandall and links our family to the book of 'Elder John Crandall and His Descendants.'
