His father Anders was born 3 Feb 1815 Soknedalen, Norway, was the son of Peder H. Sandager and Gjertrud Sorsdal. On 7 Aug 1845 he bought the Hallinghaugen estate which adjoins the Sandager estate on the north. From then on he used the Hallinghaugen name. He farmed there the rest of his life. 9 children were born to Anders and Elsa. Peder, Gjertrud, Kari, Pauline, Inger, Hans Andreas, Edward, Ole, & Petra. Anders died 13 Aug 1887 there.
