Candace Lynn Metten, 6, passed away in the arms
of her loving parents, Michael and
Crystal Metten, at their home on March 10, 2011
after bravely fighting brain cancer for over a year.

She was preceeded in death by her great
grandfathers, William (Bill) Neff, and by
Charles Metten,
whom she acquired her love for chickens, which
roamed in his back yard. She is survived and
will be forever missed and loved by
her parents Michael
and Crystal Metten, grandparents Mike and
Wanda
Mabry, Charles and Sarah Metten, Tess Metten,
Paul Neff, 10 great grandparents, 1 great-great grandmother, many aunts and uncles, and cousins,
and her many friends who will be lost without her.

Candace loved dressing up as a Disney princess.
er favorite holidays were Halloween, which she
spent much time and decision-making on what
costumes to wear, Christmas, which she would remind
us was Jesus' birthday, and, birthdays – both hers
and the family members that she coordinated parties
for. She loved to cook, and would review recipes;
she baked birthday cakes and cookies, and would work painstakingly on the icing and decorations.
She loved her cat Smokey, who slept on her bed and traveled every day over to her grandparent's farm,
and her dogs Copper, Sassie and Perdie.
She loved to feed and pet her goats, her donkey Clara
and pony Pickles. She loved to go fishing and
hunting with her father and shopping with her mother
(her favorite place was Walmart's toy department)
even when she could no longer walk. She would
struggle to select the perfect gifts for her cousins
Wesley and Olivia, and was delighted to be able to
shop for her new 2nd cousins, Miles and Sophia this
past year. She loved to sleep over at the farm,
work in the garden and gather eggs; she snapped beans
for canning and rode the tractor when putting up
hay in the summer. She held tea parties, and loved
to dress up to go to the tea parlor, where she would
host and serve tea. She loved playing with
‘the boys', cousins Connie, Palmer and, Will Ross
who treated her like a dear, little sister.
And she always spoke proudly that she had 3 ‘boyfriends' Robbie, Josh, and Decker.

Candace loved Disney World and Sea World; her
favorites at each were Bambi and the penguins; she
first was able to go when she was 4, before she was
ll, and three times again during her 15 months of
illness, once as a guest of the Make-A-Wish foundation
and Give-Kids-the-World village in January 2009
after her radiation treatment, and again in May 2009,
and lastly early this year in 2011 after treatment failed. Many thanks to family and friends of the
family who loved her and shared their hearts and
homes in Florida so that she could play on the beach
and visit the Magic Kingdom and Sea World those last
two times to see her favorite places.

She graduated from the South YMCA pre-school, where
she was awarded the ‘best artist' award. She attended
and graduated from Kindergarden at Beth Haven Christian Academy in Spring 2009; she loved her school, her school uniform, and the staff and her kindergarten teacher Mrs Johnson. Many thanks to both the YMCA and Beth Haven staff and students for the thoughtful and caring gifts
and visits. She was schooled at home for first grade
this past year by Miss Pam and excelled in math
and art.

Our gratitude and thanks to Dr Hummel and the
sensitive caring staff at Cincinnati Children's
Hospital , Dr Brennaman and the loving technicians
at the Barrett Cancer Center, and Miss Lisa ,
Candace's home nurse and our friend, who enabled
Candace to have a quality life during her battle
with DIPG. Additionally, our thank to the many
friends and churches who kept Candace in their
thoughts and prayer lists.

Although our time with Candace has been cut short,
we are thankful that you were able to visit one
more time to share in the joy she brought to our
lives.
