H.O. Merry, prominent pioneer, farmer of the Duck creek community passed away Saturday at the Wolf Point Hospital.

Hayne Owen Merry, son of Richard and Tabitha Merry was born in Effingham County, Illinois, Sept. 5th, 1880 and resided there until the 13th day of July, 1899, when he entered the army during the Spanish American War with service in the Phillipine Islands. After his discharge from the army in December of 1900 he moved to North Dakota, where he met and married Bertha Stone on August 24th 1902. To this union were born two sons, "Hershel Merry of Circle, Montana; and Virgil Merry of Hardin, Montana; also two daughters, Mrs. Gladys Mittlieder of Great Falls and Mrs. Bernice Parliment, of Seattle, Washington.

In the year 1912 he with his family moved to eastern Montana where he filed on a homestead which has been their home up to the present time or 41 years engaged in farming and stock rasing.

Mr. Merry had been in poor health for a number of years and on June 15th 1953, he was taken to the N.P. Hospital at Glendive, where he received treatment for a week, then on to Billings, where he submitted to a necessary opertaion, returning home on July 1st. On July 4th he was taken to the hospital at Wolf Point, where no hope was held for him, and he passed away on Saturday, July 18th at 5:05 a.m. at the age of 72 years, 10 months, 13 days. He was a kind and loving husband and father, and leaves to mourn his loss- his devoted wife, the two sons and two daughters, also 2 brothers, Cecil Merry of Effingham, Illinois, and Merrill Merry, who lives in Missouri, also 14 grandchildren and 5 great frandchildren, other relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday from the Ev. United Brethren church at Circle with the Rev H.C. Knuth officiating. Interment took place in Riverview cemetery.

Those attending the funeral from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Merry of Effingham, Illinois. Bud Merry, John Cooley, Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Merry and family of Hardin, Mrs. Gladys Mittlieder of Great Falls, Mrs. Bernice Parliment and daughter Bonnie of Seattle Wash.
