Confederate veteran. Born in Cumberland County, Maryland. Son of William T. & Laetitia Jones Dickinson. Enlisted on August 25, 1862. Served as scout and courier for General Richard S. Ewell in Gettysburg Campaign. Wounded at Morton's Ford on October 11, 1863. Captured at Brandy Station. POW at Old Capitol Prison and Point Lookout. Exchanged. Constant duty from Beaver Dam to Yellow Tavern. In Early's invasion of Maryland. Severely wounded in right shoulder at Frederick, Maryland, on July 7, 1864. Captured again while in hospital. POW at Point Lookout again. Exchanged again. At Savannah in 1864, but returned to Richmond as too ill for field service. Post-war: Married Mamie Hill Tidball on October 15, 1867. Was in leather manufacturing. Moved to Chattanooga in 1881, where he became Superintendant of United States Leather Company and President of the Board of Education. Episcopalian faith.
