Dorothy Agnus Brown was born on July 6, 1913, in New Providence, Iowa, the youngest of 3 children of Enoch Talmadge Brown and Emma Alice Michaels Brown. She graduated from the New Providence school system in 1931 and lived in New Providence until her marriage.


She married Julius Arthur Bryant on February 28, 1935, in Eldora, Hardin County, Iowa.

The 1940 census lists their residence as Marietta, Marshall County, Iowa. Julius and Dorothy were longtime farmers near Clemons, Marshall County, Iowa, until Julius passed away in 1963.


In 1965, Dorothy moved to Marshalltown with her daughter, Leslie. Their residence was at 209 N. 10th St., Marshalltown, Iowa 50158. She was employed in the office of Nichols and Green Shoe Store on Main Street for 13 years.


Dorothy was a member of the Minerva Wesley Chapel and the Ladies Methodist Society. After moving to Marshalltown, she associated with Fellowship Baptist Church. Her final residence was 202 N. 2nd Ave., Apt. 8, Marshalltown.


Dorothy Agnus Bryant passed away on Monday, August 23, 1999. at the Villa del Sol Health Center in Marshalltown.


She is survived by 2 sons, David Vernon and Daniel Lee (Sandra/"Sunny") Bryant, both of Albion; daughter Leslie Ruth (Mel) Walden, (b. October 23, 1946), Marshalltown; brother Donald Stanley (Helene) Brown, Marshalltown; 8 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren,

and 2 step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Julius; and her brother, Rev. Davis Brown.


Arrangements were by and Visitation was at Pursel-Davis Funeral Home on Wednesday, August 25, 1999, from 5-9 p.m. Funeral services were held onThursday, August 26, at Pursel-Davis, with Dr. Glen Jaspers and Rev. Edwin Hannahs of the Fellowship Baptist Church officiating. Interment followed at Rose Hill Memorial Gardents in Marshalltown. Donations were requested to the Fellowship Baptist Church.
