He was born Dec. 20, 1928, in Kentucky, but lived in the Alton area his entire life. He was the son of Nellie (Ralph) Johnson and Lillard Ray Sr. and in 1950, he married Darla Henson, all of whom preceded him in death.
Whitey worked as a machinist at Owens-Illinois until retirement and served in the Korean Conflict.
He is survived by three daughters, Nancy Hulslander, Beverly Bogart, Dr. Susan (Michael) Lamond; a sister, Nora Mae Gilmour; and two grandchildren, Darin Hulslander and Catherine Lamond.
