He was both a Mexican Border and WW1 veteran. He was awarded the Mexican Border Service medal, the Pennsylvania Mexican Border Service medal, the City of York Mexican Border Service medal and the General Thomas J. Stewart 100% Drill Attendance medal.
He was married (first) to Ada Agnes Zeigler in 1925 until her death in 1959, then he married (second) Ada Alverta Mellinger Schroll about 1960.
