Douglas was the infant son of Virginia Clay Collins Brown and her first husband B.W. Collins. He had an older sister, Doris Ann Collins, and has a younger sister, Connie, and brother, Buster "Bubba," both born after he died. A marker was placed on his grave in June of 2003.
