Funeral services for W.A. (Bill) Stansberry, 63, of Meridan were held Wednesday, Aug. 3 at the Brister-Lawson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Doug Shelley and Rev. Calvin Halbert officiating. Interment was in the Whitney Cemetery.
Born Aug. 21, 1919, the son of Jesse Stansberry and LaVada Shelley in Hill County. He was raised and educated in Hill County near Hillsboro. Mr. Stansberry and Ladean Thomas were married in Whitney in 1945. During World War II, he served a tour of duty in the U.S. Army.
For several years he was in the service station business while living in Whitney and later went to work for the Community Public Service Power Company (now Texas-Ner Mexico). In 1965 the family moved to Meridan, where he continued to work for the CPS. He had been employed there for 27 years.
Mr. Stansberry was a Baptist and a member of the VFW in Whitney. He and his wife also operated the Walnut Springs Locker Plant at Walnut Springs.
Survivors include his wife, Ladean Stansberry of Meridan; one son, Jesse Stansberry, one daughter Linda Johnson, both of Meridan, 2 brothers, Clarence Odell Stansberry of Tinity and Gene Stansberry of Chandler, Texas, 3 grandchildren, Shawn Turner, Brandy Stansberry and Brandon Stansberry, all of Meridan; a number of neices and nephews.
Pallbearers were: Johnny Huffman, Jeff Satterwhite, Doyle Hulme, Milton Gann, Steve Bartles, Tom Offutt, Eddie Farmer and T.F. Crawford. Honorary Pallbearers were Texas-New Mexico employees.
