Birth: 1st of seven known children, in Saint Louis county, named for paternal grandfather.

Census: 1850, age 18 Jasper county, Missouri with parents & four siblings, father, a Judge Jasper County Court .

Census: 1860, widowed, age 28 Marion township, Jasper county, Missouri with Parents, his daughter & two siblings.

William's namesake was his great grandfather, born 1742 in Virginia, a Revolutionary War veteran who moved to Saint Louis county, Missouri to amass a large plantation near what now is Bridgeton where he and wife died.

His grandfather, Jacob, was born 1789 in Virginia and died in Jasper county, Missouri 1848, so this Walton family were early pioneers to what carved out of Barry county, became Jasper county, Missouri, with his father, of Spring River Ranch, becoming one of first Justice of the Peace in newly created Jasper county, 1842-1848 with its county seat of government as of 1842, Carthage, then a County Court Judge (county commissioner) from 1850 through 1858, with John M Fullerton and Milton Stephenson accepted the 1851 brick built courthouse destroyed in 1863 during Civil War as were most all structures in Carthage, a town of some 500 people.

William and first wife, Anne E. Hudson, lived in Jasper county, Missouri. He lost his wife, who bore him two known children, before her death in 1859

Married second wife, Nancy Potts, in Jasper county, Missouri, less than a week after first battle of the Civil War was fought, in his own county of Jasper. He joined and fought with the Confederate army. He became the father of three more known children with his second wife

His father was shot by Bushwackers, 12 August 1864, while at home, ~ ~ his mother reportedly stayed on and about 1874, with sons, Wm T and brother J C, loaded two oxen-drawn wagons with their worldly goods, wives and children heading for Texas.

They spent about a year at Salado Creek in Bell County, before moving to Hamilton County where William and family stayed in what became Pottsville, named after Nancy's father, John Potts, who moved here after being sheriff in Jasper county, Missouri 1850-1852.

His mother and brother moving further west to Brown county. William lost his second wife in 1879, then five years later married for third time to Mary A. Loyd, with whom he had two more known children before his demise.
