My Opinion:
It has been said and I believe recorded by some that this is a stillborn child of Bless BRUINGTON.

I personally don't believe this is the case, Too many things point in other directions.

AT THIS TIME SOME OF THE FOLLOWING IS TOTAL CONJECTURE, SOME OF THE FOLLOWING IS A FACT.

This Grave has the date Died Dec 23, 1882
It has been pointed out to me that Bless BRUINGTON gave birth to her son Dan Jan 6th, 1883. 15 days is a pretty short time to give birth to a stillborn child, conceive again and give birth to a living child.

This grave measures from head to foot exactly 84 inches, That's 7 feet !!, It has been said to me that if a person was going to dig a grave for a child in the dead of winter that they damn sure ain't going to dig any more than they have to.

That is not the correct size for a baby's grave it should not be any more than three or four feet in length not seven.

I believe that Mary "Polly" BRUINTON was a short person.

I believe that this grave was made to appear to be a tall male, as an attempt to confuse or disguise.

I believe that Mary "Polly" BRUINTON was not very highly thought of in the town of Standing Stone, Tenn now known as Monterey, TN

If you take the time to look at other comb graves in this area you will find many that state Marv ??? Last name Wife of ???Name of Husband which tells me that the stone carver in this area used a V instead of a Y.

I believe, the absence of a birth date only says that they could not recall or did not want to state when this person was born.

I believe this was another attempt to confuse or disguise and when the turmoil dies down a birth date could be added and all is then corrected.

I believe the persons responsible for these omissions passed away before this could be Corrected or was never comfortable that the turmoil had died down enough to make the correction.

I believe there has not been found any documentation of Bless BRUINGTON or anyone else giving birth to a stillborn child named Marv.

I believe that the other Marv BRUINGTON'S have been found and accounted for.
For example here is Marvin BREWINGTON B Dec-10-1906 --D Dec-7-1964 son of James Daniel BREWINGTON. Here is Marvin Luther BREWINGTON B July-8-1886 D Sept 11, 1958, son of Gillis & Nannie BREWINGTON.

I believe that all of these attempts to disguise this grave was to keep it from being desecrated by some people that thought badly of her. I refer you to the Buckner Witch stories of Standing Stone Tenn now called Monterey TN.

In Mrs. Maurine Ensor Patton's Cemeteries of Putnam County Tennessee book ,on page 48 she listed this grave as Mary BRUINTON, Due to this and opinions that I have received from others and my own personal strong feelings I now totally believe this is Mary "Polly" BREWINGTON AKA The BUCKNER Witch, also my great Grandmother. God bless her soul.

NOT REALLY GOOD GENEALOGY but is the best I could do for now, and it makes a heckuva good story, especially if you research the Buckner Witch stories in the Libraries at Monterey, Cookeville and Tennessee Tech Univ.
RESEARCH IS CONTINUING
It should also be noted that in this area BREWINGTON, BRUINTON & BRUINGTON are all the same family name.

This gravestone has a five pointed star on it.The star stands for the spirit, piercing the darkness as an expression of
their triumph against the overwhelming odds of oblivion.
