Floyd Stewart Hershberger, 84, of McCook died from complications of Alzheimer's disease Monday, March 7, 2011, at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook.

Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Congregational Church in McCook with the Revs. Phil Ewert and Steve Bales officiating. Private family burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery before the memorial service.

Visitation with the family present will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday at Herrmann Funeral Home in McCook.

He was born Jan. 12, 1927, in Waterloo, Iowa, to Floyd and Christine (Fenton) Hershberger.

On Sept. 29, 1951, he married Joyce Miller in Boulder, Colo.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years; son, Brad and his wife, Angie, of McCook; daughter, Bonnie Payne and her husband, Jim, of Kearney; grandchildren, Chelsey Nichols and her husband, Corey, Sean Hersh-berger and his wife, Abby, Taylor Hershberger, Jason Payne and Kristin Payne; three stepgrandchildren; one great-grandchild; one stepgreat-grandchild; and brother, David Hershberger and his wife, Cindy, and their family of Waterloo.

In 1954, he and Joyce moved to McCook where Floyd was the vocal teacher at the high school and McCook Junior College. In 1956, he started Hershberger Piano and Organ Co., which grew into a full-line music store. He was very active in his church and community.

He was preceded in death by his eldest daughter, Laurie, on Dec. 27, 1994, and his parents.
