JD Martin, resident of Ponca City, passed away Sunday, March 6, 2011, at the Ponca City Medical Center. He was 89.

The service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, March 10, 2011 at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Jack Shamburger, officiating. Burial will follow at the Fairlawn Cemetery in Cushing, OK at 3:30 p.m. The family will greet friends on Wednesday evening from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Trout Funeral Home. Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home & Crematory.

JD was born on November 23, 1921 to Ray Arthur Martin and Luella (Smiley) Martin in Wichita Falls, TX. He was raised and attended school in Cushing, OK. JD married Helen Gooding in 1939 in Perkins, OK. In 1944 he joined the United States Army serving in WWII. After he was honorably discharged in 1945, JD went to work for Conoco as a machinist in Ponca City where he worked all his adult life. In 1998 JD married Marlene Fuller in Ponca City.

JD enjoyed all kinds of sports including bowling, softball and especially tennis. He was a member of the American Legion, Moose Lodge and the First Baptist Church which included the Disciples Sunday School Class.

He is survived by his wife Marlene of the home; two sons: Howard Martin and wife Norrine of Tallahassee, FL, and Terry Martin of Ponca City, OK; four grandchildren: Julie Savoy and her husband Ken of Dayton, OH, Steve Martin and his wife Liz of Orlando, FL, Travis Martin and his wife Samantha of Ft. Campbell, KY, and Carrie Lynn Pruitt; 11 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; three step children: Dawn McGaha and her husband Verle of Tonkawa, OK, Dan Fuller of Baltimore, MD, Dean Fuller and his wife Terri of Tonkawa, OK; two step grandsons: Colt Fuller and Ryan Frye; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, first wife Helen Martin, and two siblings Kermit Martin and Ina Bowman.

Casketbearers will be Steve Martin, Kendell Savoy, Phil Gooch, Dan Fuller, Verle McGaha, and Travis Martin.
