David was a graduate of Colorado State University with a degree in Economics in 1931 and moved to Denver in 1934. He was employed as a bookkeper and auditor for 40 years in the Colorado Secretary of State's Office. He retired in 1971. He was a member of Alameda Heights Methodist Church. David never married. He loved the outdoors and he loved to fish.

He was a grandson of David Dutcher and Mary Elizabeth (Hoodenpyle) Forest of Ozark County, Missouri.
