Leonard J. Short Passed away February 1, 2011 at his home in Deming, New Mexico. He was born on October 29, 1923 in Pennsylvania, the youngest of 9 children. Leonard served in the United States Army from July 3, 1943 until April 16, 1946. He married Helen Slutz April 8, 1958 and they moved to Deming in 1977.

Leonard married Theresa Short July 27, 1989 and spent the next 21 years together, traveling to fiddle contest and music festivals all over the United States, known fondly as Short n' Sweet. Leonard was always adamant about making sure young fiddlers and musicians were rewarded well for their efforts of playing music.

Leonard is survived by his wife, Theresa Short, several step-children, including Jerry Slutz, Joyce Kun, David Crumm, Daniel Crumm, Jerry Crumm, Annie Duggins, Paul Crumm and Regina Griffin; several step-grandchildren, nieces and sephews.

He was preceded in death by Helen Slutz , six brothers, two sisters, one step-son, Jimmy Crumm and many close musician friends.

Visitation will be Thursday morning February 10, 2011 from 9 to 11 with the Funeral service to follow at 11 at Baca's Funeral Chapel with Pastor Marshall Boyer of Calvary Chapel officiating. Private interment will be at Fort Bayard National Cemetery.
