Mr. John R.D. Owen of Newburg [Missouri], died of typhoid fever at that place on Tuesday evening [September 29, 1887] last at 7 o'clock, aged 28 years, 1 month, and 5 days. His funeral takes place in Rolla today at 2 o'clock. He was a graduate of the School of Mines [in Rolla] and was until June an assistant in the laboratory. He was the oldest child [oldest son] of Mr. and Mrs. F.C.W. Owen, and was an exemplary young man. He was a member of the order of A.O.U.W. and will be buried under their auspices today.
