WORCESTER Elizabeth C. Foley, 88, of Worcester, passed away on March 26 in Las Cruces, NM, near her daughter, following a long illness. Betty was born in Worcester on July 31, 1919 to Francis A. and Anna (St. Germain) Fitzgerald. She is survived by her daughter, Pam and her husband William Odell; her granddaughter, Sarah Odell; her sister, Anna Mahan of Attleboro; numerous nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, two great-grandnieces and a great-grandnephew. She was preceded in death by her husband, John D. Foley, her parents, her brothers Paul and Francis, and her sister Irene Sullivan.
Betty graduated from South High School in 1938, and then St. Vincent's School of Nursing. She worked in Worcester as a registered nurse for 40 years. Following retirement, she remained active with the Association of Operating Room Nurses, was a board member of the Worcester Diocesan Council of Catholic Nurses, and belonged to St. Vincent's Hospital School of Nursing Alumni Association. She also volunteered with the American Red Cross until one year before her passing, and was named Volunteer of the Year in 1991. For the past 20 years she also volunteered at Higgins Armory museum. Betty was a woman of strong faith, and a long-time member of St. Andrew the Apostle Parish. She was always kind, always giving, a loving mother, grandmother, aunt, and sister. She was a person who made a profound difference in the lives of those who knew her.
The funeral will be held Saturday, April 5th, from the Alfred Roy & Sons Funeral Home, 12 Hammond St., Worcester with a Mass at 10 AM in St. Andrew the Apostle Church, 5 Spaulding St., Worcester. Burial will follow at St. John's Cemetery, Worcester. Calling hours will be on Friday, April 4th, from 5 to 8 PM.
