Sewell Biggs graduated from Wilmington Friends School and finished at the University of Delaware in 1938 and then attended Virginia School of Law. In addition, he studied architecture at Harvard, as well as Oxford and Cambridge in England. He was a resident of Middletown, Delaware.
Sewell Biggs traveled around the world in 1937, and after that trip decided to offer a scholarship to one deserving student at the University of Delaware.
Sewell Biggs collected art and antiques avidly and accumulated a celebrated collection. This collection needed a space to call it's own and after much negotiation the Sewell Biggs Museum was formed in 1998.
Mr. Biggs continued to be a presence in the art and antique world, and he sadly passed away while going an a purchasing trip for the museum.
