PIONEER WOMAN DIES
MRS. MARY J. CONE CAME HERE IN 1869

End Comes at Home of Daughter, Mrs. C. J. Tobias - Was 82 Years Old


Mrs. Mary J. Cone, a pioneer resident of Jasper county, died at 2 o'clock this afternoon at the home of her daughter, Mrs. C. J. Tobias, on Grand avenue. She had been seriously ill two weeks. Death was due to senility. She was 82 years old.
Mrs. Cone, with her husband Seth Cone, came to Jasper county in 1869. They settled near Avilla, moving to Carthage 25 years ago. Mr. Cone died here in 1900. Mrs. Cone was born November 12, 1838 in Iowa and was reared there. She and her husband came to Missouri from that state.
The daughter, Mrs. Tobias, and one son, Charles Cone, of Dewey, Oklahoma are the children surviving. A sister, Mrs. Hattie Duval, of Springfield, and a brother, Milton Mathews, of Wichita, Kansas also survive. The following are nieces and nephews: Mrs. Ed Farmer of Carthage, Mrs. Martin Fry of Joplin, Mrs. Marie Moss of Kansas City, Mrs. Laura James of Dewey, Okla., Claude Cone, William Cone and Lillian Cone of Dewey, Okla., and Edgar E. Brown of Winfield, Kans., the latter formerly of Carthage.
Carl Farmer of Carthage, Ruth Fry of Joplin, Charles and Betty James of Dewey, Okla., are grandchildren.
The son is expected to arrive tomorrow. Mrs. Moss of Kansas City and Mrs. James of Dewey, Okla., and Mrs. Martin Fry of Joplin were here at the time of Mrs. Cone's death. Other relatives are expected tomorrow. Funeral arrangements have not been made. Mrs. Cone was a member of the Christian Church.

FUNERAL OF MRS. CONE HELD
Services for Pioneer Woman Are Largely Attended

Funeral services for Mrs. Mary J. Cone were held at the C. J. Tobias home, 1493 Grand Avenue, at 2 o'clock this afternoon. Many friends of the aged woman were present. Rev. Dr. L. J. Marshall, pastor of the Christian church, was in charge, assisted by Rev. Dr. J. D. McCaughtry, pastor of the First Presbyterian church. Mrs. John Bailey, Miss Jean McClurg, Miss Mildred Moore and Miss Geneva Moore sang. They were accompanied at the piano by Mrs. W. J. Sewell.
Pallbearers were: D. S. Emerson, W. D. Knight, B. F. Hackney, E. H. Wyatt, Dr. M. J. McClurg and W. H. Butts. Burial was in Park Cemetery.

Property is Left to Children and Grandchildren

The will of the late Mrs. M. J. Cone, who died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. C. J. Tobias, on Grand Avenue, last Wednesday afternoon, was filed for probate this afternoon.
Lot No. 15 in Fairview addition to Carthage is left to Mrs. C. J. Tobias; lot No. 24, Holman's addition goes to her son, Charles J. Cone; $10 each is left to her grandchildren, May Farmer, Edgar Brown, Myrtle Fry and Marie Moss. The remainder of the estate is left without restriction to Mrs. Tobias, Charles J. Tobias is named to act as executor, without bond. The instrument was drawn November 22, 1912 and the signature was witnesses by Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Williams.
