"Maxwell 'Peck' Bess, 83, of Charleston died Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2005, at home after a long illness.
He is preceded in death by one son, Charles Ray Bess; one baby daughter, Carol Jean Bess; parents, Boyd and Lucy Bess; three brothers, Verlion, Robert, and Daily Harold Bess; and three sisters, Freda Grey, Roberta Hill, and Delmer 'Diddle' Goodwin.
He was a retired truck driver for Kanawha County Schools with 28 years of service.
He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Clarice Asbury Bess; son, Ronald L. and wife, Pamela Bess; daughter, Tina L. and husband, Danny M. Davis, all of Kelly's Creek; six grandchildren, Jason Davis and fiancée, Lindsey Johnson of Tyler Mountain, Charles Matthew and Andrew Davis of Kelly's Creek, Michael Bess and fiancée, Jessica Jackson, of Kelly's Creek, Brian and Kimberly Bess, both of Kelly's Creek; two stepgreat-grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one brother, Donald Bess of Page.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 22 at Gatens-Harding Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Stanley Miller officiating. Burial will follow in the Clark Cemetery, Kelly's Creek. Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Gatens-Harding Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Poca is in charge of the arrangements.
