Services for L. J. "Lefty" Sollis, 82, of Lubbock, formerly of Sherman will be held at 10 a.m. today in J. A. Hodges Chapel of the First Christian Church in Lubbock. He died Sunday at Methodist Hospital in Lubbock. Rev. Michael Passmore will officiate. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in West Hill Cemetery in Sherman with Rev. Rick Johnson of Central Christian Church officiating. Rix Funeral Home of Lubbock has charge of arrangements.

Mr. Sollis was born in Sherman. He was a 1930 graduate of Sherman High School, played football and basketball and was captain of of the track team. He graduated from Texas Tech University and played halfback for the Red Raiders. On Feb. 8, 1938, he married Eugenia Smith in Planview. During World War II, he served in the U. S. Army Air Corps. He owned and operated Frontier Rental Service, operated service stations and coached at the Spur and Post. He was a member of the Texas Tech Letterman's Association, Yellowhouse Masonic Lodge, Khiva Shrine Temple, Lubbock Scottish Rite Bodies, Alpha Tau Omega and Keenagers. He was also a member and deacon of the First Christian Church and a member of the Harvester's Class there.

Surviving are his wife ; sister, Bonnie Chesnut of Sherman. Pallbearers will be Winston Brummett, Jesse Evans, Sammy Tate, Marvin Beeman, Carl Bailey and G. B. Morris. Memorials may be made to Scottish Rites Learning Center or the donor's chice.
