Lucy Ellen Petree-Moore of Tennessee was born to John Wiley and Sarah Elizabeth Winchester-Petree on January 1, 1867, in Obion County, Tennessee. However, her family moved to West Point, White County, Arkansas, in 1868, where she grew up.

Just before her twentieth birthday, Lucy Ellen married William Price Moore of Sheridan, AR. on December 28, 1886, in Grant County, AR. Lucy gave birth to their first child, a daughter, Rebel Winnie, (added this info on June 14, 2022) on November 15, 1887, but she died soon after birth on December 13, 1887. Only twenty-eight days to love her little daughter. It is possible their daughter was buried in Moore's Chapel Cemetery in Dogwood, Grant County, Arkansas where Price's father, John Fletcher, donated all the land there for the Methodist church and cemetery.

Later, Price's uncle, William Wesley Moore, told them of the good farming in Texas and so they moved to Texas with their six children, Nettie Elana "Lena," Chester Dare, Loura Myrtle, Wiley Fletcher, Willie Ernest "Bill", and baby Gertie Pearl, in a covered wagon in 1902. They finally arrived in Corsicana, Texas, and rode the train into Frost, Texas where they first stayed with Price's uncle until they bought their family farm 13 miles Southwest of Frost and the McCord Community at that time in 1904. Price and Lucy had five more children, Birdie Rozella (9-18-1903), Irvin Harris (4-29-1906), and Ocie Eilene (7-5-1907). Sadly, on July 2, 1902, Lucy did give birth to twins, a boy and girl, who were born on the Strain Farm in Frost, but did not survive the same day. They were buried in the Emmett Cemetery, south of their farm, with no markers to be found. Dr. John Matlock, Sr. was the doctor at that time who delivered the twins and cared for the neighboring towns at that time.

Lucy and Price were long time members of the United Methodist Church of Frost and McCord community. They often hosted the church family at their home where Price would sing and one of his daughters would play the piano.

Lucy Ellen passed away from illness at her homestead in Navarro County on April 14, 1909. She was the first Moore in her family to buried at Frost Cemetery. Lucy's daughter, Gertie Pearl, named her youngest daughter, Lucy, in loving memory her mother. Little Lucy was born on April 23, 1941, a loving tribute to her grandmother. :)

July 27, 2011: I was given a copy of Lucy's obituary by Alana Neel-Sims, great-granddaughter to Lucy, granddaughter to Ocie Moore-Neel-Fields, and daughter to John Frank Neel. Here is the obituary as it was written. I am not sure who the author was? However, the original was typed on rice paper, per Alana.

OBITUARY OF
MRS. LUCY E. MOORE

Lucy Ellen Petree was born January 1, 1867 in Obion County, Tennessee, being the oldest of the children of John W. Petree and wife, Sarah Elizabeth, who came to West Point, White County, Arkansas in 1868, where Lucy grew to womanhood.

On December 28, 1886, when almost twenty years of age, she was married to W. Price Moore of Sheridan, Grant County, Arkansas, at which place they lived until December 1901, when the family moved to Frost, Navarro County, Texas. To this marriage were born twelve children, five sons and seven daughters. A son and two daughters preceded her in death, having died in infancy.

She joined the Methodist Church in her twenties. She was a dear Christian wife, a devoted mother, and a true friend. Her presence and companionship are sorely missed in the bereft home and community. She was a constand source of help and happiness to family and friends; patient and kind to all. Truly hers was a life worthy of emulation.

Tradegy (sic), indeed, has struck this home in the passing of the mother whose younger children so greatly need her tender care and loving guidance; whose husband needs, so very much, her faithful helping hand. After a short illness at the family home, Mrs. Luce E. Moore, wife of W. P. Moore, departed this life about 5 P. M., Wednesday, April 14, 1909, age 42 years.

Funeral services held Thursday P. M. April 15, 1909, at the Methodist Church in Frost were conducted by her Pastor, Rev. Walter E. Griffith. Burial was made in the Frost Cemetery.

Those who mourn her departure are her husband, W. Price Moore, and nine children: Lena, 20; Chester, 18; Myrtle, 16; Fletcher, 14; Willie, 11; Gertie, 8; Zella, 5; Irvin, 3; Ocie, 21 months all of Frost, Texas; her mother, Mrs. S. E. Petree, Griffithville, Arkansas; two brothers, W. T. Petree, Sheridan, Arkansas and Wiley J. Petree, Griffithville, Arkansas; three sisters, Mrs. Sarah N. Lewis, Mrs. Cora E. Holt, both of Walker, Arkansas and Mrs. Jennie S. Vose of Logan, Kansas, and a host of friends and other relatives.
