Mr. Abbott died at home on Friday, Nov. 25, 2005, of natural causes. He was 65.
Born in Reedsport on Nov. 11, 1940, he was the son of Joseph and Wilma (Day) Abbott. After graduating from Reedsport High School in 1958, he enrolled at Linfield College.
He married Joanne Bourgeois on Sept. 9, 1961 in Newport. He went on to earn his bachelor's degree in 1962 and master's degree in 1963, both in education.
After college, Mr. Abbott taught middle school in Newberg for two years, then took a job with City Janitorial. He later purchased the firm.
He enjoyed baseball, golf and gardening. He was a member of the Elks Club, Knights of Pythias and Michelbook Country Club, and a past president of the country club.
"He was a kind, loving and extremely generous man," the family said. "We'll miss him."
In addition to his wife, Mr. Abbott is survived by a son, Eric of McMinnville; two daughters, Stephanie Ranche of McMinnville and Shawn Mace of San Gabriel, Calif.; a brother, Rod of McMinnville; a sister, Joyce Duvall of Knappa; and 12 grandchildren.
