Grady Birdwell

Grady Birdwell, of Irving, passed away February 23, 2011 in Irving. He was born on May 22, 1924 in Lamesa, Texas. He graduated from Ceres High School, Ceres, CA in 1941 and later joined the Army Air Force in February of 1943, serving with the 1347th Army Air Force Base Unit in the Asiatic Pacific Theater. He attended in TN. He went to work for the Texas Department of Safety in 1951 as a state trooper, retiring August 1982.

He is preceded in death by his parents Demus and Dillena Birdwell; daughter Patti Rollins; and brothers Lester and Jack Birdwell.

He is survived by wife of 64 years, Nell Birdwell of Irving; daughter Lynda Johnson and husband Bill of New Jersey and Hawaii; sons Jimmy Birdwell and wife Sandra of Irving, and Johnny Birdwell of Irving; son-in-law Ron Rollins of Sanger; brothers Sam Birdwell and wife Jean; Tom Birdwell and wife Lynelle; and Dan Birdwell; sister Jayne Willis and husband Byron; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grand-children and expecting 1 great-grandchild soon; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held Friday night, Saturday and Sunday. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Sunday February 25, 2011 at Brown's Memorial Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, February 28, 2011 at Oak Haven United Methodist Church with Rev. John Fletcher officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens.

Family requests memorial donations to The Memorial Fund at Oak Haven United Methodist Church, 1600 N. Irving Heights, Irving, TX 75060.
