Henry Jacob Jelle served in WWI in the Philippine Islands with his younger brother Richard who was Infantry. Henry worked in the Engineer Corps and was promoted to Technical Sergeant prior to his honorable discharge in 1920.

Henry J Jelle with three brothers who served: Ole, Henry J, Richard, and Eddie. Henry's military service legacy as of 2021 has spanned across four Jelle generations to date: son Howard USAF, one grandson USAF, and one great grandson USAF!

Henry J Jelle was the eldest of 9 surviving children from a family formed from three marriages: His father and mother, his uncle Elias and aunt Lena, and his father and his aunt Lena turned stepmom.
