Born in Lynn and a lifelong Lynn resident, he was the son of the late William and Margaret (Ryan) Murphy.
A WWII veteran, Jack first served in the U. S. Navy and then in the U. S. Marine Corps.
He worked at the Essex County Courthouse and retired in 1990. Prior to that he was a lineman for Mass. Electric Company.
Jack was a member of Ring 99 Veteran Boxers Assn., and was a former USMC Boxing Champion. He enjoyed lobstering.
Jack was proud of his Irish heritage, his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was the father of Geraldine McElligott and her husband Francis of Lynn, William Murphy and his wife Kathleen of Billerica, John Murphy and his wife Cindy of Lynn, Allene Murphy of Chelsea, Colleen Raiche and her husband Robert of Lynn, and of the late Catherine Murphy. He was the brother of Mary Murphy of Rutland, VT and of the late Catherine Finnigan. He also leaves twelve grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, a niece Margaret Wright and a nephew John Finnigan.
A funeral Service will be held on Saturday at 11 AM in the CUFFE-MCGINN FUNERAL HOME, 157 Maple Street, Lynn. Burial in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Visitation Saturday morning from 10AM to 11AM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Disabled American Veterans, Attn: Gift Processing, P. O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250.
