Obituary of Frederick Thomas Weaver
Frederick Thomas Weaver (USN, Ret) 77
passed away March 10, 2010 in Reno, NV. He was born January 15, 1933 in Baltimore, MD to the late Frederick Louis and Myrtle Lillian Weaver.
He served in the US Navy for 25 years first as an Airman at Great Lakes, IL and NAS North Island at San Diego, CA and later as a Seabee steelworker with NMCB 133, NMCB 74 and NMCB 62 at Gulfport, MS, NAS North Island at San Diego, and NAS Agana, Guam. Before his retirement from the United States Navy in 1987, he attained the rank of Chief Petty Officer. During his years of naval service, he earned three awards of the Navy Unit Commendation Medal, two awards of the Battle Efficiency Medal, five awards of the Good Conduct Medal, two awards of the National Defense Service Medal, six awards of the Vietnam Campaign Medal with Marine Corps Emblem, one individual award and one unit award of the Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Bronze Star, the Civic Action Ribbon, four awards of the Overseas Service Ribbon, the Vietnam Service Medal and other commendations. He was one of many Seabees instrumental in the recovery of the Mississippi Gulf Coast after Hurricane Camille and used his skills as a steelworker to build the original Seabee mascot at NMCB Gulfport, MS which is now permanently placed on the parade field. He also built the Seabee mascot on NAS Agana, Guam. After retirement from the Navy, he served as an OSHA inspector for the state of Nevada for 14 years.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Juanita Maria Borja Rosario Weaver (Nganga) of Reno, NV. 9 children, Lorry Weaver of Long Beach, MS, Caroline (Hugo) Caingat of Bonny Lake, WA, Thomas (Marianne) Weaver of Long Beach, MS, Jeanith Mesa of NCS, Guam., Thomas McClard of Fremont, CA, Myrtie(Timothy) Levesque of Nashua, NH, Donna McMurphy of Gulfport, MS, Arthur (Krystal) Weaver of Gulfport, MS, Andrea (Leo) Poggione of Reno, NV, along with 20 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, a brother (Woodland), sister (Lillian) and two sons (Woodland II and Frederick Jr.)
Graveside memorial with military honors will be held at Northern Nevada Veterans Memorial cemetery in Fernley, Nevada on March 26, 2010 at 11 a.m.
