Eva and Frederick resided first in Tuscarawas County and later in Stark County, OH.
All the information I have about Eva is recorded here. Her maiden name was Riegel but Riggle, Riggles, Ruggles and Ringle have been found on several records. It is felt these spellings for her maiden surname, were record transcription errors or phonetic spellings . I would greatly appreciate any additional information concerning her parents.
I am very certain her father was Johann Peter Riegel and her mother Susanna Eppley Riegel residing in York, PA where Eve was born in 1812. They had 15 children, Eve was the youngest. Citing This Record "Pedigree Resource File," database, FamilySearch http://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.2.1/SGC7-923 accessed 2014-01-21, entry for Johann Peter /Riegel/.
She was briefly married for a second time to Peter Swank on 21 Dec 1868 (Note the record is dated 21 Dec 1869; the two other records on the page are for Jan 1869, so it is thought the person recording the yr accidentaly wrote 1869 instead of 1868 because by 10 Oct 1869 Peter had died) Eva is recorded on the 1870 US Census residing in Lawrence Twp., Tuscarawas Co., Ohio as Eva Swank. We know this is her because three of her children from her 1st marriage, Frederick J., David L. and Lucinda R. Keller, are living with her in the household. On the 1880 US Census for Bethleham Twp., Stark Co., OH she is enumerated as Eva Keller.
Her burial is recorded in the Stark Co. Ohio Cemetery Inscriptions Book Vol.II, pg 290, published by the Stark County Genealogical Society. Her death record has not been found. She is buried next to her daughter-in-law, Sorepta [Pifer] Keller and a grand daughter Arvilla Keller. Arvilla was the daughter of David and Sorepta. Initially it was a mystery why Eve was not buried with her 1st husband in Myers Cemetery? When looking at the burials next to Frederick, it appears that they are all young children who are Fredrick's grandchildren; so possibly there was not a plot left to bury Eva next to Frederick???
I would be happy to share my genealogy research and copies of records with anyone who is a descendant of the Riegel/Riggle, Keller, Pifer/Pipher, or Swank families. All my records are sourced including the German birth record for Frederick Keller Sr. which contains his parents names.
I would really like to find Eva's death record! She most likely died in Stark or Tuscarawas County Ohio as either Eva Keller or Eva Swank.
