Virginia Pickering

The funeral will be held Dec. 27 for Virginia May Pickering of Eugene, who died Dec. 18 of a stroke. She was 82.

Pickering was born Sept. 18, 1920, in Glenrock, Wyo., to James and Ruth Johnston Camm. After graduating from Glenrock High School in 1937, she attended the University of Wyoming for a year.

She married Ralph Pickering in Glenrock on July 23, 1939. He died Oct. 16, 1989.

Pickering worked as a secretary in several insurance offices. She moved to Eugene 15 years ago from Redding, Calif.

Her interests included traveling, quilting and singing. She also enjoyed playing the violin at care centers as a member of the Gospel Strings. She belonged to the Willamette Christian Center.

Survivors include a daughter, Ruth Stringfield of Eugene; two sons, Ralph Jr. of Modesto, Calif., and Jim of Portland; a sister, Shirley Pearson of Santa Clara, Calif.; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday at Lane Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home. Friday's service will be at 10 a.m., also at the funeral home. Burial will be at Lane Memorial Gardens.

Memorial contributions may be made to Willamette Christian Center.
