Bio Information

Marija was born in Austro-Hungary in the middle of 19 century. From 1918 till 1991 that area was Yugoslavia and From 1991 till today it is Republic of Croatia. She was a Croatian and Roman-catholic.

Yes, Rade Strika moved to his birth-village of Medjedjak near Plaski, Yugoslavia in 1936 or so after the repose of his wife Marija who is buried in Mt Calvary catholic cemetery in Kansas City, KS. According to Helene's story Rade had some type of open wounds on his legs before he returned to old country. When he settled in his village he married Manda Kompar, a Croatian lady. Rade is buried in a small cemetery in Medjedjak, near Plaski.

As far as I remember the stories from Helene Rade and Marija had three daughters. Helene's mom Ljuba or Louise was the oldest, she was married to Ilija or Eli Vujnovic (Vunovich). Second daughter was Milka or Millie married to Milos Petrovic and they lived in Sugar Creek, MO. Thier last and youngest son Alex Petrovic passed away two years ago. And the third and youngest daughter was Draga or Mae married to Milan Sumonia. Their son Dushan passed away about two years ago in Colorado. I think two more daughter are still alive, Melena and Katherine.
I believe Rade lived in Omaha, NE before he moved to old country.

I dont know the names of their parents.

M Herman was a daughter of Eli and Louise Vunovich. I think she was Millie Herman and I think Helene told me that she was blind, not sure about this? She did not have any children and she was one of or the oldest child.

Rade Strika was from village of Medjedjak near Plaski. When he left the old country it was Austro-Hungary. Rade was a Serbian and faith was Orthodox. Today Plaski is in Croatia. Marija was also from that area, not sure which village. She was a Croat and catholic. I believe she had some relatives in KC
Ilija Vujnovic came from the village of Divoselo near Gospic in Lika province. When he left his area it was in Austro-Hungary. Ilija was a Serb and Orthodox. Louise was born in the same village as her dad - Medjedjak near Plaski in Lika province.
Ilija had two brothers in Hibbing, MN, one was Milan and another Dmitar Vujnovic, dont think there are anyone alive from them in MN. Ilija had a cousin in Des Moines, IA.

Hope this will help.
The most important to understand is that they all came from Austro-Hungary at the turn of 20 century. After the WWI in 1918 that area belonged to a new Country called Yugoslavia until the last civil was in 1991 when Yugoslavia broke away into 6 small Countries. One of them is Croatia where your ancestors villages are.I forgot about fourth daughter of Rade and Marija Strika. Her name was Bessie and she married Kranek and they ended up in OK. I think Mr Krenek was a Slovak or something.
