He married Elizabeth Margaret Murdock, also from County Down, Ireland, 13 November 1889.
By 1900, he owned and operated a farm on what is now Division Street in Auburn. He later purchased a farm in Aurelius that is known locally as Stony Pitch Farm, operating that farm for several years.
By 1920, he had retired and lived for the rest of his life with his wife at 22 Garrow Street, Auburn.

Andrew H. Lester died this morning at his home, 22 Garrow Street, after being in poor health for some time. Born in Ireland, Mr. came to the United States at an early age and lived his life in this vicinity. He was a member of Central Church of Christ, Disciples.
Surviving Mr. Lester are his wife, Mrs. Elizabeth Murdock Lester, three sons, Walter J. of Aurelius, George H. of Auburn, and Frank H. Lester of King Ferry; a daughter, Mrs. D. J. Martin of Aurelius; four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Burial in Fort Hill Cemetery. Bearers were Arthur Stebbins, Herbert Stebbins, Robert Stebbins, Kenneth Wright, Arthur Stevenson, Charles Sanford.
