Enlisted September 28, 1861 at Bay Springs, Mississippi for 1 year into Co. C. 7th Mississippi Infantry.

He was wounded at Murfreesboro, Tennessee on January 3, 1863 and sent to a Confederate hospital, and returned to regiment in May, 1863.

In January, 1864 he reenlisted "for the duration of the war".

April 10, 1864 he was in in a local hospital but returned in May, 1864.

He was wounded severely on July 27, 1864 at Atlanta, Georgia, sent to a hospital again, and later returned to his regiment.
