Robert C. Collett Sr., 86, of Snydersburg, a retired employee of the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, died late Thursday night, Nov. 19, 2009, in Clarion Hospital.
Born Nov. 22, 1922 at Limestone, he was the son of Jay L. and Ada I. Carberry Collett.
He and the former Lucille M. "Toodle" Wolbert were married May 7, 1947, by the Rev. William Holl, and she survives.
Mr. Collett served in the U.S. Air Force and retired from PennDOT on March 22, 1985, with many years of service.
He was a member of St. Joseph Church in Lucinda, the Clarion American Legion and the Antler Club of Lucinda. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, traveling, playing cards and spending time with family, especially his great grandchildren, who were the love of his life.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Collett is survived by one daughter, Victoria L. Oyler Piper and her husband, Walt, of Tylersburg; and two sons, Robert C. Collett Jr. and his wife, Marty, of Lucinda and Gary J. Collett and his wife, Bridget, of Lucinda.
He also is survived by four sisters and two brothers, Lois Smith of Atlanta, Ga., Doris Hays of Clarion, George Collett and his wife, Jane, of Clarion, Vic Collett and his wife, Ada, of Limestone, Bonnie Hoover and her husband, Gene, of New Bethlehem and Peg Emrick and her husband, Harry of Shippenville.
Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Doug Oyler of Erie, Keith Oyler and his wife, Georgia, of Lucinda, Kelly Hart and her husband, Billy, of Cranberry, Christy Sample and her husband, Jason, of Stoneboro, Katie Collett and Will Driscoll of Portsmouth, Va., Nicole Deitz and her husband, Eric, of Leeper, and Brandon Collett of Lucinda; seven greatgrandchildren, Logan and Kierra Oyler, Blake and Brooke Hart, Brayden and Riley Sample and Nathan Deitz and expected baby Deitz; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Collett was preceded in death by a brother, Jack Collett, who was killed in World War II, and one great-grandson, Zackary Oyler.
Friends and family may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Borland Funeral Home, Inc., in Leeper.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in St. Joseph Church in Lucinda, with the Rev. William C. Miller, pastor of the church, as celebrant.
Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
