William G. Armstrong, 83, of Vestal passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 1, 2011.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Norma Joyce, his children, Daniel William (Augusta, GA), Susan Eileen (Johnson City, NY), and Karen Jane (Vestal, NY), their spouses, Elissa, Richard and Barbara, and his grandchildren, Michael, Brian, Ellen, Kaylee, Ethan and William. He is also survived by his two sisters, Nelberta Stafford (Norwich, NY) and Gloria Napalitano (Ocala, FL).

He is predeceased by his parents, Charles and Hazel, and his two brothers, Donald and Warren.

He was proud of his 46 year career as a construction superintendent. He was employed by Stone and Webster Engineering, Robert Foley Construction and finally by New York State Electric and Gas, where he remained a dedicated employee until his retirement in 1991.

Bill was a musician, a gardener, a friend, a husband, a dad, a grandpa, and an eternal optimist. He considered himself a lifelong learner who enjoyed restoring antique tractors, gas engines and his 1935 International truck. He also loved traveling, reading, telling stories, fixing things and spending time with his family.

Friends and family will be received on Saturday, February 5 at Coleman and Daniels Funeral Home, 765 Main St., Vestal, NY from 4-6pm. A memorial service will immediately follow. A private burial will be at Vestal Hills Memorial Park at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in Bill's name to Lourdes Hospice, 4102 Old Vestal Rd, Vestal.
