Marion was preceded in death by all of his siblings, as well as two daughters, Donna Marie (Thornton) Beach and Mary Lucille (Thornton) Ramsey, and an infant son, Jimmy Dale Thornton.

Survivors include his wife of 71 years, Dorothy Kathryn (Taube) Thornton, whom he married August 29, 1939 in Savannah, Mo. Eventually, he purchased and operated a small farm north of Troy, where he primarily raised hogs, but also occasionally ran a few cattle and grew fruit and vegetable crops during the summer.
