Frank was the oldest child of Joel Lee Monasmith and Sarah Elizabeth Dugger. The Monasmiths moved to Formoso, Kansas in 1874, and to Kechi, Kansas in 1888, where Frank met Ethel.

He married Ethel Roxella Fisher on 6 September 1897 in Wichita, and they had one child, Esther Lynn Monasmith.

In 1913, Frank was working as a plumber in Hot Springs, Arkansas. He moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma where he was an independent plumber licenced by the City. His daughter worked with him as his helper, and in 1916, at the age of 18, she was the first woman to pass the examination and receive a Plumbers' Licence in Tulsa.
