COURIER-JOURNAL OBITUARY 1-31-2011
BOYLE, NOLAN "DUDLEY," 77, of Louisville, passed away Saturday, January 29, 2011 peacefully at the Norton Suburban Hospital with his family by his side. He had retired from AT&T after 32 years of service. "Dudley" attended South East Christian Church, and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers. He also served his country during the Korean War in the U.S. Army. He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara (Shacklett) Boyle, married 9-18-1982; and a brother, Jake Boyle. He is survived by two daughters, a brother, Robert Boyle, three grandchildren and one great-grandchild. His Celebration of Life Service with military honors will be held on Wednesday, February 2, 2011 at noon at Arch L. Heady at Resthaven Chapel, 4400 Bardstown Road. Visitation will be Tuesday from 2:00 p.m. till 8:00 p.m. with burial at Resthaven Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

In the last paragraph of a letter Dudley wrote the day Barbara died he wrote, "I have herein tried to show how much I thank the Lord for the many blessings he has given me. Most of all I thank him for sending Barbara for me to love and know her love. I pray the Lord will find me worthy enough to join her when my time in this life is over. And he signed it, "In loving memory of my beautiful wife Barbara." Barbara's name was only mentioned once in Dudley's funeral and that was when the Chaplain read his obituary. I'm sure he is turning over in his grave the way Barbara's memory was handled.
