J.P. Dunagan, 79, retired farmer and who in the early days of Olney drove a freighter from here to Weatherford and then on to Fort Worth.

Funeral services were held at the Cumberland Presbyterian church with Rev. Forrester officiating assisted by Rev. Cort Flint, pastor of First Baptist church.

He was laid to rest beside his wife who preceded him in death.

A native of Georgia, he left Chickamauga and came to Texas at the age of 19 years. He first settled at Springtown, Parker County, Texas. There he farmed and operated a thresher which he toured grain fields in the area. He married Miss Louvenia Campbell at Springtown in Parker county, Texas on 13 November 1892.

When he came to Olney, he freighted with his wagon taking local produce and bringing back supplies to the early day merchants of Olney. Later Dunagan devoted his full time to farming.

The couple's first home was on a tract of land at the end of North Grand Street. The Dunagan family made the moved in December of 1903 driving two covered wagons, one carrying the family clothing, bedding and food, the other loaded with farm equipment and tools. Ray and Joe, 10 and 12, walked and drove the horses and cattle. It took a week to make the trip. In 1910, they moved to the farmer two miles southwest of Olney that was to become their home for the rest of their lives.

He was a Presbyterian and Mason.

Survived by four sons and six daughters - Roy, Joe, Johnnie and Bert Dunagan, all of Olney; Mrs. Frank Jewell of Dayton, TN; Mrs. Fred Ware of Graham, Mrs. Clester Evans of Olney, Mrs. Marshall Hayes, Jr. of Lott; Mrs. Bill Harrod of Odessa, Mrs. James Sloan of Taft; two brothers - Joe Dunagan of Olney; Bob Dunagan of Memphis; one half-sister - Miss Lucille Dunagan and five half-brothers who live in GA and TN - Carl, Tom, Sam and Loyce Dunagan. One of the half-brothers, Carl Dunagan of Chattanooga, TN was at his bedside; 28 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren.

One grandson, Grady Dunagan of Olney preceded him in death on 15 February 1945 during World War II on Leyete.
